How it works
Methodology
A report is a comparison, not a single dashboard number. This page says where the readings come from, how one car is placed among others of the same model, age, and mileage, and what the dollar range means.
Evidence tiers
The badge names the evidence. There are three tiers.
Measured · OBD Session means the battery was measured on a scan tool, in a direct session on the car.
Connected · Cloud Sync means the figures were read from the car’s own account, not typed by a seller. The connection requests the odometer, the battery state of charge, the remaining range, and the VIN, plus the make, model, and year on the vehicle record. The report scores that set of readings together. When the battery is nearly full, the remaining range is used as the full-charge range. Otherwise the full-charge range is the remaining range divided by the state of charge.
Estimate · Cohort Model means there is no live session. The VIN identifies the car and its factory range, and a person types the odometer and the dash range. Because those range and mileage figures are typed, the result is an estimate with a wider interval than a connected or measured report.
Cohort percentile
Health is compared with cars of the same model, age, and mileage. The percentile is that car’s place in the cohort. Until the curves are published, a lookup says so instead of showing a percent.
Why this is not a web search
Anyone can ask for a general account of how EV batteries age. That answer is not this car. It does not use this model’s curve, so it cannot place the car against similar cars at the same mileage, or turn the gap into a price range. The curves are the part that takes time. They tighten as more comparable cars are checked. Until a curve has been checked against real batteries, no accuracy figure is published.
Negotiation leverage
The dollar figure is excess fade beyond that cohort. It is always shown as a low–high range. No excess fade is $0 (Within normal cohort aging). When the car is no worse than the cohort, the dollar figure is $0.
Chemistry
Chemistry changes what a voltage reading can show. On a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) pack, voltage stays flat through the middle of the charge window, so a mid-range voltage can be inconclusive. A cell-voltage spread in that window does not confirm imbalance. The check marks it inconclusive and uses a cell-voltage difference only when state of charge is above 95% or below 10%.
What this report cannot detect
It cannot confirm a cell-level fault, a coolant leak, a crash repair, or that a pack was replaced. A connected account does not publish cell voltages. A VIN estimate does not read the car. None of the tiers is a mechanical inspection, a warranty decision, or financial advice.
